イラン北西部の町で、歴史としては浅いですがウールの絨毯を作る産地でした。
半世紀ほど前からオールシルクの絨毯を作る工房が増え、シルク絨毯の一大産地となりました。絨毯としては新興産地という事もあり、伝統に囚われず、色々なデザイン、配色の絨毯が生まれ、シルクに造詣が深い日本に向けて、9割を占めるほどの絨毯を輸出しています。

Qom is a town in the northwestern region of Iran. Although they do not have much of a history, this town was a center for wool carpets.
Half century ago, numbers of workshops making all-silk carpets increased and now Qom has become a major manufacturer of silk carpets. Since they are fairly new in the carpet industry, they create carpets that are not bound by tradition. Carpets of various designs and color schemes are created for people in Japan who are well-versed in silk, and currently they account for 90 percent of the exported carpets.
